TPT#466 - When They Put You In The Box
Continuing our whirlwind summer of all the things, we attended Jes' cousin's straight-people wedding. It went fairly well, and as always there were hijinks.

TPT#330 - Kwik-E-Mart University
How weird is it to say "back when I was in a cult..."? George has said it more than a few times, and it doesn't seem to get less weird each time.

TPT#257 - You Can Google That
When you're going to encounter a new situation, it's often a good idea to do a little research. We went to LoveLoud, a one-day music festival in Utah that benefits charities supporting LGBTQ youth. The music was great, the host was awesome, and visiting friends in Salt Lake City was wonderful. Visiting the Mormon Temple complex in trans pride clothing was interesting. George isn't stealth at work, but he's not completely out either, so he often ends up in awkward situations answering questions that people could have researched for themselves. When our Child#1 tried to go overseas, it didn't work as well as he'd hoped, but that's an unfortunate side effect of not doing his research.

TPT#243 - You Can't Be Stealing Trans People's Stories (Performer, Scholar, and Activist, Peterson Toscano)
We're blessed today to speak with our favorite "cissy", Peterson Toscano. Through his one-person comedies and lively lectures, he has delighted audiences throughout North America, Europe, and Africa as he takes on social justice concerns. His plays and talks humorously explore the serious topics of LGBTQ issues, sexism, racism, privilege, gender, and climate change. You can learn more about his work at PetersonToscano.com.

TPT#235 - If You Want It, You Find A Way (Unlikely Activist Z, Pt. 2)
In the second part of our conversation with our friend Z, he shares his experiences discovering more about his indigenous heritage, living in an inter-racial relationship, and coming to a broader understanding of faith. We discussed various topics related to racial justice, supporting oppressed minorities, colonialism and capitalism, and all sorts of other ways in which he, and we all, can be overcomers.
Z recommends finding out more about, and if possible supporting, the following organizations/projects:
- America In Transition: http://americaintransition.org/
- Trans LifeLine: http://www.translifeline.org/
- TransLatin@ Coalition: http://www.translatinacoalition.org/

TPT#234 - A Private Journey (Unlikely Activist Z, Pt. 1)
Our long-time friend Z is an FtM activist and long-time advocate for the trans community, the LGBTQIA+ faith community, and communities of color. He appears in the series America In Transition, currently in development. (You should go support this amazing project at americaintransition.org!) In our recent discussion, he recounts his path toward becoming an unlikely activist. Childhood trauma, military service, DADT, living with PTSD, and learning to trust his Spirit, all led him to become the man he is today.

TPT#167 - Is This Really The Reality?
As we've been discussing preparations for, we finally got to Michigan for the funeral. Regardless of over-planning everything, Murphy's Law takes over when it can. From difficulties with overnight flights and hotels that weren't really ready to be open yet, to all the responsibilities that we *tried* to leave behind, to Jess' caffeine addiction and driving past the graveyard, nothing can ever be easy... Except maybe Jess' conservative family?

TPT#166 - Are We Gonna Have That Much Nonsense?
As we prepare to visit Jess' family, some of whom are rather conservative, we have a discussion about conversational frameworks in which he would prefer Jess discuss or answer questions regarding his transition. He has also felt increased social and physical dysphoria lately, comparing his own physical presence to that of other (presumably cisgender) males.

TPT#165 - Funerals Are What We Do
We have a funeral to attend halfway across the country, mostly to see Jess' family but also because there's a dead guy. Which means making arrangements for our responsibilities to be managed in our absence. But when Kid#2 just had his meds changed, Jess is staring teacher-transfer season in the face, and our pre-arranged childcare falls through, it's never easy. Ever.

TPT#120 - Safety Math
Queer spaces often have their own set of unwritten rules, expectations, or social norms that are based on a collective experience of being perpetually on guard for one's own safety and peace of mind. Lately we spend less time in queer spaces than we'd like, but we've recently had some refreshing experiences with "folks like us".
Ivan Coyote discussed their experience with the bathroom dilemma at dailyxtra.com/vancouver/dear-lady-in-the-womens-washroom-4771 some years back, and someone snagged a video of them reading it at youtube.com/watch?v=eo6MeDSCBVM. Last year, as part of their Gender Failure project with the equally awesome Rae Spoon, they followed up with a piece which can be read at slate.com/blogs/outward/2014/04/11/transgender_in_public_bathrooms_why_does_our_safety_always_come_second.html.

TPT#112 - The Jesus People, Pt. 2 (Career Christians and the “big fat gay wedding”)
Continuing last week's discussion of Christianity and the LGBTQIA+ community, we talk about how our friends' lives changed as they moved in and out of religious employment, government employment, and the private sector. They could see the effect of their religious views and their love for the queer community in the way they fit (or didn't) into each step of their respective and collective journeys.

TPT#111 - The Jesus People Pt. 1 (Finding faith, “ex-gay”, the culture wars, and being hated)
George's friend and his wife, the ones who lead the bible study we've mentioned, join us for another guest episode! We discuss their initial experiences at the intersection of religion and respect for the LGBTQIA+ community, and how they moved from a place of supporting "ex-gay" ministries to being genuinely supportive and loving toward the queer community.
To be continued next week!

TPT#110 - Gender F*ckery
Transition literally means a change from one thing to another. Prior to transition, we were perceived as our assigned gender, and until we begin transitioning we have to cope with a less-than-ideal circumstance and state of being. How we cope is unique to each individual, and how long we choose to adapt to our assigned gender is also variable. George's experience of adapting and his methods of adaptation to his assigned gender were effective for him... until they weren't.

TPT#103 - With A Puppy Dog and Jesus on the Cross
We are both people of faith, but only Jess is a person of religion. We've discussed before how our respective faith backgrounds overlap and how we adapt to a mixed-faith marriage, but now Jess has invited the whole queer Jesus gang to our house. George would probably have an issue with this, if it weren't his best friend and said friend's wife in charge of the group.

TPT#95 - My Cousin Vinnie, Pt. 1 (Porn, Religion, and being Genderqueer)
George's cousin came to visit, and we talked them into sitting down with us by a microphone for our first guest episode. As an AFAB, genderqueer, jewish, former pornographer, they fit right in with our crazy family!

TPT#83 - Lots of BS
Child#2 has been participating in boy scouts for a few months now, and while Jess still has reservations about their history with the LGBT community, George has been all about getting him involved with positive opportunities for male socialization.

TPT#58 - Saucer Sled on the Ski Jump
We often find ourselves in the middle of conversations and realize "this would make a good podcast topic." This time we turned on a microphone and started over with rape culture, working our way through family anecdotes and the metaphysical nature of trans-ness, to religion and our individual views on gender as they relate to faith.
Please go to http://poll.pollcode.com/15998381 and let us know some quick and anonymous demographics, as we discussed at about the 24-minute mark.

TPT#47 - Faith and Stuff
As often happens after death of a loved one, we got into the topic of spirituality. After exploring our individual histories with faith and religion, we discussed what we believe, why we believe it, and why it's okay that we don't believe the same thing.
